What is the Internship program?

The Internship program offers an unpaid professional Internship placement with a host organisation aimed at providing university students with practical experience in their field of study. The Internship program can be undertaken with or without an Intensive English course.

The Internship program comprises three main elements specifically designed for interns to enjoy a successful Internship with their host organisation:

Language Training
Business Training
Cultural Development

The purpose of an Internship is two-fold. Interns will gain work experience that will assist them with their future career search while also improving their language skills and experiencing Australia culture.

Program objectives

To enhance the intern's skills in his or her field of study or interest through participation in a structured program.
To improve the intern's ability to use English in an authentic professional context.
To improve the participant's knowledge of Australian techniques, methodologies or expertise within his or her field of endeavour.
To enable the intern to understand Australian culture and society.

Who can apply for this program?

Students 18 years and over who possess at least an Upper-Intermediate English level. Applicants are required to take a pre-enrolment entry test and may have to do a phone interview with the Director of Studies; this will help us ascertain that they are the right level for the program. If the student does not reach the level, the student will be required to take 2-4 weeks of Super Intensive General English (at an additional cost) before starting the Internship program.

The intern must demonstrate sincere interest in the host organisation's mission. The intern must also contribute professional skills and cultural perspectives to the host organisation. The intern must function as a regular staff member in the host organisation and adhere to all policies and procedures.

Full applications need to be received at least 3 months in advance. The search for host organisations will only begin once the student has been accepted in the program and all documentation has been received.
